2014! I decided to switch gears for a textile project to get this new year going.
It's my take on a work-clothes quilt, using old denim pants for one side... (shout out to Gee's Bend!)
...and the other side's totally crazy, thanks to all these great fabrics I've collected through the years.
The story has something to do with a tribe of B&W Colobus monkeys exploring a strange country of jungles, flower gardens, purple-haze, rivers and crop plantations. Watership Down comes to my mind when I start crafting a narrative about groups of animals exploring unfamiliar territory. Speaking of rabbits, can you spot the White Rabbit candy wrappers sewn on? Still a favorite logo of mine....
I still have much more of the actual quilting to do and a lot of ideas for appliqueing more characters/flowers/symbols into this bizarre world. ( I decided to not put any batting in between the layers, as the denim already makes this a heavy item, though I'm slightly regretting this decision, wondering if the puffiness of the final quilted stitches has been lost...) I can't wait to be dreaming underneath this thing when it's all finished... I'll post finished pictures when the time comes.
